Crystal Beach, Beach community in Port Bolivar, Texas.
Crystal Beach is a settlement stretching along the Texas coast with access to both the Gulf of Mexico and Galveston Bay waters. The area is shaped by water on multiple sides, with sandy shores and bay frontage for residents and visitors.
The area began as Patton settlement and received a post office in 1898. It took its current name after railroad operations ceased in the 1940s.
The name comes from the clear waters of the bay that surround the settlement. Daily life here revolves around the proximity to water, with residents and visitors regularly using the beach and bay shoreline.
A ferry service connects this area to Galveston Island and provides year-round transportation for visitors. The best time to visit is during calmer weather months and outside the peak hurricane season.
A major hurricane in 2008 caused significant flooding and reshaped the community's landscape. The aftermath led to stricter building standards for coastal homes that remain evident in the newer structures today.
