TC Energy Center, Postmodern skyscraper in downtown Houston, United States
TC Energy Center is a 238-meter tower featuring a distinctive red Swedish granite exterior. The structure contains 56 floors with three segmented tower setbacks topped by gabled rooflines and spires, housing approximately 1.3 million square feet of office space.
The building was completed in 1983 based on architect Philip Johnson's design. It has undergone several name changes since its opening, from RepublicBank Center through Bank of America Center to its current identity.
The building displays rotating art exhibitions in its public spaces, contributing to the downtown Houston corporate art collection.
The complex is located in the center of Houston's Theater District and features 32 elevators with wood finishes. The surrounding area offers convenient pedestrian access and good transportation connections for visitors exploring the downtown core.
The building draws inspiration from Dutch Gothic canal houses, evident in its steep gables and dark pink-red granite exterior. These European-influenced details make it visually distinct from typical Houston skyscrapers.
