Metro Tower, Office skyscraper in Lubbock, United States.
Metro Tower is an office skyscraper in downtown Lubbock with 20 floors covering roughly 111,000 square feet of space. The building currently houses office tenants and is undergoing renovation that will add residential apartments to its structure.
The building was originally completed in 1955 as the Great Plains Life Building and became a symbol of post-war commercial development. A devastating tornado in 1970 caused severe damage, but the structure was later repaired and returned to use.
The building received recognition on the National Register of Historic Places in 2021, marking its role in Texas architectural development.
The building features four modernized elevators that efficiently move people between floors throughout the structure. Its central downtown location makes it easily accessible, and current renovation work is improving facilities and amenities.
It ranks among the few tall buildings in the region that survived a direct hit from a powerful tornado and returned to full use afterward. This durability makes it a notable example of structural strength in a storm-prone area.
