Union Station is a railway station in downtown Dallas, United States, built with a glazed white brick exterior and tall arched windows. Its two-story layout includes a large waiting hall on the upper level, with classical columns and high ceilings giving the interior a sense of open space.
The building opened in 1916 to bring together several separate railroad companies into one shared terminal. By 1969, regular passenger service had ended, and the city of Dallas bought the station in the early 1970s to prevent further decay.
Inside the upper hall, visitors can see murals that show scenes from Texas history, such as early settlers and oil derricks, recreated in the 1990s after the originals were lost. This space is now also used for weddings and private events, bringing everyday celebrations into a building designed for travel.
The main entrance leads to a large hall with elevators and tunnels for reaching the platforms below. The building has wide doorways and clear signs, making it easy to move between the street, waiting areas, and train level.
A staircase and hallway inside still keep the original waiting room layout, where passengers once gathered before boarding. Elvis Presley walked through this station during a fan mob, a moment remembered by local rail workers long after the crowds left.
