The building was constructed in 1982 on land where a sugar refinery once stood, replacing 19th-century warehouses. This development marked the shift of the site from industrial use to modern commercial district.

The Shops at Canal Place in the lower levels reflect how locals and visitors move through this part of the city to find luxury goods. The retail presence shapes the daily rhythm of the Central Business District and its character as a shopping destination.

Visitors can access parking within the building complex and use fitness facilities during their visit, making extended stays more comfortable. The location on Canal Street offers easy access via public transportation and is walkable to many nearby destinations.
