Burr's Ferry Bridge

Three Parker through truss spans and thirty-four concrete girder spans stretch across the Sabine River, connecting Louisiana State Highway 8 with Texas State Highway 63.

The bridge replaced a ferry service operated by Dr. Timothy Burr, who settled in the area around 1820 and established multiple businesses near this strategic crossing point.

This structure stands at a location that was previously part of a disputed territory between France, Spain, Mexico, and the United States in the early 1800s.

The bridge measures 250 feet at its longest span and maintains a clearance of 12 feet 8 inches, supporting two lanes of traffic between Burkeville and Burr Ferry.

A new bridge structure will replace the current one by 2024, positioned quarter mile south as part of the Interstate 14 extension project.
