Swine Palace

Swine Palace is a theater at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge that presents productions in a theater-in-the-round setting with roughly 500 seats. The venue features modern lighting and sound equipment that supports professional performances.

The building began in 1926 as a pavilion for viewing livestock and was later converted into a place for performing arts. The transformation into a theater took place during the 1990s and gave the site a new artistic purpose.

The company stages both classical and contemporary works while giving students from the LSU School of Theatre a chance to perform before audiences. This hands-on experience connects classroom training with real professional productions.

The Reilly Theatre houses the company in an intimate venue where the audience sits close to the stage. This closeness makes each visit direct and engaging, and the program changes regularly so there is always something new to discover.

The company became in 2007 the first American theater ensemble to stage a work by Wendy Wasserstein in China, performing at the Shanghai Dramatic Arts Centre. This international presence shows how the stage reaches beyond the university to cross borders.
