The Gardens of the American Rose Center, Rose garden in Shreveport, United States.
The American Rose Center is a major rose garden spread across roughly 50 acres and displaying different rose types throughout. All across the park, you find individual garden areas nestled under pine trees, each showcasing different varieties and themes.
The rose growers' organization moved its headquarters from Ohio to Shreveport in 1974 and established a major garden there. This move made Louisiana the new center for rose cultivation and research in America.
The center preserves and displays the history and diversity of roses for visitors to learn about. Here you encounter both heritage varieties and modern breeds that show how roses have evolved over time.
The best time to visit is spring through fall when roses are in full bloom and the park looks most colorful. Wear good walking shoes since you will be on your feet most of the time, and be prepared for hot and humid summer weather.
A Border Collie named Rosie works in the park helping to protect the roses from wildlife damage, especially from deer. The dog is part of daily operations and many visitors enjoy spotting her during their visit.
