Holly Grove Plantation House, Plantation house in Hinds County, United States.
Holly Grove Plantation House is a colonial-era residential building in Hinds County featuring Federal and Greek Revival architectural styles. The structure has a full-width gallery beneath its front facade and a center hallway with two rooms on each side.
The house was built around 1832 by Noel and Jane Killingsworth at its original location. In 1990, it was taken apart and relocated over a significant distance to its current site in Hinds County.
The walls inside contain handwritten notes, poems, and personal records dating from 1870 onward, showing how families marked their lives in this home. These writings reveal the everyday thoughts and moments of people who lived here across many years.
The building was assembled from pre-manufactured components that were shipped from Cincinnati by river transport. Visitors can observe the solid construction and materials like poplar, spruce, fir, and cypress while walking through the house.
Roman numerals marked on the manufactured pieces show the house was assembled like a building kit, representing an early form of modular construction. These markings allowed all parts to fit together correctly, a method still used in modern construction today.
