Chevalier Field, Former military airbase in Pensacola, Florida, United States.
Chevalier Field is a former military airbase located on the northeast side of the Navy shipyard in Pensacola, Florida. The base featured seven asphalt runways organized in two intersecting clusters.
The field was founded in 1922 as Station Field and was renamed Chevalier Field in 1935 during an expansion phase of the military facility. The renaming honored an aviator who achieved a significant milestone in aviation history.
The facility trained over 28,000 military pilots during World War II, increasing its student capacity from 800 to 2,500 students per month during peak operations.
The field is located within the Navy shipyard grounds and is relatively accessible if you are familiar with local transportation routes. Since the base is no longer active, visitors should verify access conditions beforehand.
The name comes from an aviator who made the first successful landing on an aircraft carrier in 1922. This event connected the facility's history with a turning point in modern naval aviation.
