Pensacola Light, Maritime lighthouse in Escambia County, United States
Pensacola Light is a granite and brick lighthouse in Escambia County marking the entrance to Pensacola Bay on the Gulf Coast. The structure stands about 150 feet tall and serves as a navigational aid for vessels entering these waters.
An earlier lighthouse from 1824 stood at this location before being replaced in 1858 by the current structure. The new tower was built with improved technology to better serve the region's increasing maritime traffic.
The lighthouse is a familiar landmark for seafarers and has shaped the bay's character for generations. Its presence reminds visitors of the area's lasting connection to maritime life.
Access is through the Naval Air Station West Gate where visitors must show identification. Hours are limited, so check ahead and allow time for climbing the interior stairs to reach the top.
A staircase winds through the interior leading to an observation platform with far-reaching views of the bay and military aircraft from the air station. This elevated vantage point makes the view one of the visit's highlights for many people.
