Tarkiln Bayou Preserve State Park

The Tarkiln Bayou Preserve State Park extends across 4,000 acres of coastal bayou and wet prairies in Escambia County, Florida.

The land designation as a protected area resulted from efforts to maintain the native pitcher plant populations that inhabited these wetlands for centuries.

Naturalists and researchers regularly visit the preserve to study the rare plant species and document the ecological relationships within the wetland system.

Visitors can access the preserve through a network of trails and boardwalks, with entrance fees of $3 per vehicle from 8 AM until sunset.

The preserve contains four species of endangered pitcher plants, including the white-topped pitcher plant that grows exclusively between Apalachicola and Mississippi Rivers.
