Hurlburt Field, Military air base in Okaloosa County, United States.
Hurlburt Field is a military air base in Okaloosa County, Florida, and serves as the center for Air Force Special Operations Command. The installation covers several thousand acres and includes a runway roughly two miles (9,600 feet) long, along with support buildings for training and operations.
The site opened in 1942 as an auxiliary field to Eglin Air Force Base and trained bomber crews during World War II. It received its current name in 1948 in honor of a pilot who died in 1943 during a test mission.
The Memorial Airpark displays numerous historical aircraft including the Lockheed AC-130A Spectre and Fairchild AC-119G Shadow, representing military aviation heritage.
Access to the base is restricted to authorized personnel and visitors with prior clearance, requiring security checks at the entrance. Visitors should be aware that photography outside designated public areas such as the airpark is not permitted.
A memorial park on site displays historic military aircraft including gunships and transports from different eras. The planes stand outdoors and provide those with access a view of how air combat equipment evolved over several decades.
