Alamuchee-Bellamy Covered Bridge, Wooden covered bridge in Livingston, United States.
The Alamuchee-Bellamy Covered Bridge is a wooden structure on university grounds spanning roughly 88 feet in length. It features a Town lattice truss design made from hand-hewn yellow pine timbers fastened together with large wooden pegs.
The structure was built in 1861 over the Sucarnoochee River and served as a supply route to Mississippi for Confederate forces during the American Civil War. After damage from a logging truck, it was relocated and thoroughly restored by the Sumter County Historical Society between 1969 and 1971.
The bridge sits on the University of West Alabama campus and crosses a water body while showing regional building traditions. Visitors can see how the community has woven this structure into campus life.
The passage is easy to access and includes a ramp for wheelchair users to navigate. Interior lighting allows visitors to explore the bridge safely even in darkness.
The structure was not preserved at its original site over the river but was completely moved to the university grounds. This relocation allowed it to remain as a functioning passage rather than becoming a ruin.
