Constructed in 1856 for $2,300, the church served as a departure point for Confederate soldiers during the American Civil War in 1861.
The congregation established strong community connections through regular worship services, civic gatherings, and social events since its founding in 1836.
Located at 100 West Bridge Street, the church maintained its presence until 2019 when an EF2 tornado caused substantial damage to the structure.
Notable members included William Lowndes Yancey and Governor Benjamin Fitzpatrick, while Senator John H. Bankhead celebrated his marriage to Tallulah Brockman here.
