Bibb Graves Bridge, Road bridge over Coosa River in Wetumpka, United States.
Bibb Graves Bridge spans the Coosa River with five concrete arches, connecting two sections of Wetumpka on either side. The structure stretches over 700 feet (roughly 240 meters) and measures about 26 feet (8 meters) wide, providing a solid crossing for all types of traffic.
The bridge was built in 1931 during Governor Bibb Graves's administration, representing engineering efforts made during the Great Depression era. It became an important infrastructure project that supported local development and connectivity at that time.
The bridge gained recognition through its appearance in the film Big Fish, which ties the story to the local landscape. It serves as a meeting point where people cross and pause to take in the river views.
The bridge welcomes cars, pedestrians, and cyclists, making it easy to cross from one side of town to the other. Walking or cycling across offers the best views of the river and surrounding area below.
This structure ranks among only two bridges in Alabama built using reinforced concrete in this particular construction method. The rare building technique makes it a less-recognized example of engineering from an earlier era.
