Birmingham–Southern College, Liberal arts college in Birmingham, United States
Birmingham-Southern College is a liberal arts college in Birmingham, United States, spread across wooded grounds about three miles from the city center. The institution featured academic buildings, residence halls, and athletic facilities connected by walking paths and green spaces.
The college resulted from merging two Methodist institutions in 1918, bringing together Southern University and Birmingham College. Membership in Phi Beta Kappa came in 1937, and operations ended on May 31, 2024.
The campus includes Norton Hall, a Georgian-style building from 1938 with white columns and brick walls. The building once housed administrative offices and served as a gathering point for student academic life.
The grounds sit in a residential area west of downtown and remain visible from public roads. Visitors can view the exterior architecture from sidewalks, though the campus has now closed.
The baseball team reached the national championship tournament in the third division as the final sports team representing the institution before closure. The team played its last games in May 2024 while the college closed its doors permanently.
