Rampage, Wooden roller coaster in Bessemer, Alabama, United States
Rampage is a wooden roller coaster that stretches over 3,500 feet and climbs to about 120 feet high. It accelerates to speeds around 56 miles per hour as it travels through nine crossovers and twelve curves with six-car trains.
The coaster opened in 1998 as part of VisionLand Park and closed in 2002 following bankruptcy. It reopened in 2003 under new management and has operated continuously since then.
The name came from a public contest in 1997 that drew over 1,000 entries from local residents and park visitors. This community choice made the coaster feel like a shared creation from the start.
The trains use simple lap bars for safety as riders sit in two rows per car. Visitors should prepare for a ride that demands moderate to high levels of physical resilience.
The entire structure was built from roughly 650,000 board feet of southern yellow pine, a material prized for its smooth ride and durability. Using this local wood tied the project to the region's timber heritage.
