Aldridge Botanical Gardens, Botanical garden in Hoover, Alabama, US.
Aldridge Botanical Gardens is a woodland garden covering about 30 acres across a forested valley, with walking trails connecting various sections. The property includes a lake, large hydrangea plantings, and native oak and pine forest areas.
Eddie Aldridge purchased the forested land in 1977 and later gave it to the City of Hoover, which opened it as a public garden in 2002. This transition from private property to public space shaped what visitors experience today.
The gardens serve as a space where visitors of all ages can explore nature and learn about plants through hands-on experiences. Regular programs and outdoor activities help connect people with the natural world.
Walking trails are easy to navigate and take visitors through different areas of the garden at a relaxed pace. Comfortable shoes are recommended since paths cross both forest floors and open areas.
The gardens are known for the Snowflake hydrangea, a rare double-flowering variety developed and patented by Eddie Aldridge and his father Loren. This plant variety now grows in gardens worldwide.
