Coffee River Cave

Coffee River Cave is a limestone cave system located in the central-western region of Jamaica. The network features multiple underground chambers and passages that extend through the rock formations beneath the landscape.

The cave system formed over millions of years through the dissolution of limestone by underground water in Manchester Parish. These natural processes gradually shaped the hollow spaces beneath the ground.

The cave system serves as a research destination where scientists study the bat populations inhabiting its chambers. Researchers visit regularly to document the ecological balance within these underground spaces.

Visit during the dry season when flood risks are lower, as heavy rainfall can make some passages inaccessible. Bring a reliable light source since the interior passages are completely dark.

Sections within the cave are designated for bat guano collection, which is used traditionally in local farming practices. This material plays an important role in agricultural activities and reflects a long history of practical use.
