Huaquillas Canton

Huaquillas Canton is an administrative region in El Oro Province that lies at Ecuador's southern border with Peru. This territory functions as a gateway zone where the two countries meet and form a defined frontier area.

The canton was created during Ecuador's administrative reorganization in the latter 19th century, following the establishment of El Oro Province. Its formation reflected efforts to establish clearer territorial divisions along the national border.
