Construction took place between 1937 and 1940 under Father Paul Boiteau's guidance, replacing an earlier church that had stood since 1858. The new building was needed to accommodate the growing community in this mountain town.
Culture
The interior furnishings were entirely crafted by Irénée Accot, the first mayor of Cilaos, demonstrating the skill of local artisans. These handmade elements remain visible throughout the church's interior.

The church sits on Rue des Sources in central Cilaos and is easily walkable from most locations. Regular services and community gatherings take place throughout the week, making it a living part of local life.
