Braddon is an electoral division in northwestern Tasmania spanning roughly 21,400 square kilometers along the west and northwest coasts. The area covers eight municipal regions and includes the major cities of Burnie and Devonport as well as King Island.
The division was created in 1955 following a reorganization of the former Darwin division. It was named after Sir Edward Braddon, who served as Premier of Tasmania between 1894 and 1899.
The electoral division employs the Hare-Clark system for elections, reflecting Tasmania's commitment to proportional representation in its democratic processes.
Visitors should keep in mind that the area is geographically spread out and offers diverse landscapes across its communities. The major cities of Burnie and Devonport serve as useful reference points for getting oriented across the region.
The boundaries of this electoral division perfectly mirror those of its federal counterpart, making it one of few state districts with exact federal alignment.
