ETA Foods Factory, Heritage factory in Braybrook, Australia
The ETA Foods Factory is a heritage-listed food production facility in Braybrook, located along Ballarat Road in Victoria. The building features a distinctive glass curtain wall with alternating bands of clear and black glass that create a striking modernist appearance.
Designed in 1957 by architect Frederick Romberg of Grounds Romberg and Boyd, the building became a notable example of post-war industrial architecture in Australia. This era of design brought together practical manufacturing needs with forward-thinking architectural innovation.
The courtyard inside features a landscaped garden with a stone pool, fountain, and concrete sculpture by artist Teisutis Zikaras. These artistic touches show how beauty was woven into the everyday workspace of the factory.
The factory sits on Ballarat Road and is easy to reach on foot, with the glass facade visible from the street. The internal courtyard with its garden features is accessible, allowing visitors to explore the landscaped spaces and artistic elements up close.
In 1962, this was the only Australian industrial building featured in the international journal Industriebau. This recognition showed that the architectural design was considered internationally significant at the time.
