Wattamolla, Lagoon and beach in Royal National Park, Australia

The coastal site features a lagoon formed by Wattamolla Creek and Cootes Creek, connecting to a beach through changing water channels.

Matthew Flinders, George Bass, and William Martin found refuge from a southerly gale in 1796, naming the location Providential Cove.

The name Wattamolla originates from Aboriginal language, meaning place near running water, first documented as Watta-Mowlee by early explorers.

The site maintains a picnic area with barbecue facilities and requires a vehicle entry fee of 12 dollars per day for access.

Three survivors from the Sydney Cove shipwreck reached this beach in 1797 after walking from Ninety Mile Beach Victoria seeking rescue assistance.

Location: New South Wales
