The Normanby Hotel is a two-story brick building located at the corner of Musgrave Road and Kelvin Grove Road in Red Hill. The structure features decorative balconies, verandahs, leadlight windows, and ornamental ceilings that date back to the 1890s.
The building was constructed in 1890, designed by architect John B Nicholson for owner Thomas Game. An earlier establishment had operated on this site starting in 1872 before being replaced by the current structure.
The hotel became a gathering place for Brisbane's alternative music scene during the 1990s, with its lower bar hosting live bands and performers. People came here to experience music and meet others who shared the same interests.
