Normanby Hotel, Heritage hotel at Red Hill, Brisbane, Australia
The Normanby Hotel is a two-story brick building located at the corner of Musgrave Road and Kelvin Grove Road in Red Hill. The structure features decorative balconies, verandahs, leadlight windows, and ornamental ceilings that date back to the 1890s.
The building was constructed in 1890, designed by architect John B Nicholson for owner Thomas Game. An earlier establishment had operated on this site starting in 1872 before being replaced by the current structure.
The hotel became a gathering place for Brisbane's alternative music scene during the 1990s, with its lower bar hosting live bands and performers. People came here to experience music and meet others who shared the same interests.
The hotel is easily accessible at a well-known street corner and continues to function as an active venue in the neighborhood. The surrounding area offers parking options and nearby transport connections for visitors.
The building displays Queen Anne architectural style with substantial brick construction and an elaborate gabled roof. It sits elevated above Petrie Terrace and is visible from many points across the city.
