George Washington Faulkner House, Queen Anne architectural residence in Santa Paula, United States
The George Washington Faulkner House is a three-story residence built in the Queen Anne style, located in Santa Paula. The structure features more than 500 individual beveled and etched glass pieces set in copper frames throughout its windows and entrance door.
The house was constructed in 1894 by architects Herman Anlauf and Franklin P. Ward as an example of Queen Anne design in California. It became the first officially designated landmark in Ventura County when it received this recognition in 1968.
The property maintains its agricultural heritage through the Hansen Agricultural Research and Extension Center, where scientists study crops in the Santa Clara River Valley.
The house is located in a rural area of Santa Paula and can be viewed from the exterior. Visitors should note that interior access may be limited, and the best views of architectural details are available from the front of the property.
The house was equipped with electrical wiring and indoor plumbing when it was completed, which was unusual for a rural residence of that period. These innovations reveal that remote homes in California already had access to modern conveniences.
