The structure served as the birthplace of Union Oil Company in 1890, operating as its headquarters until the company relocated to Los Angeles in 1900.
The California Oil Museum within the building displays industrial artifacts including an 1890s drilling rig and historic gas pumps from different periods.
The building received a 2 million dollar grant for maintenance work, including roof replacement, HVAC repairs, and water damage restoration projects.
The ground floor contained Santa Paula Hardware and Post Office while Union Oil Company executives conducted business operations on the second level.
