The Haunted Mansion

The Haunted Mansion is a dark ride at Disney World in Florida. The vehicles move through a Gothic-style manor and rotate automatically so guests view each scene from the best angle.

The ride opened in 1971 at Magic Kingdom, shortly after the California version. It brought new techniques for moving figures and lighting effects to theme parks and influenced later attractions worldwide.

The name draws from American traditions of haunted houses found in 19th-century stories and folklore. Visitors today experience a tone that mixes humor with spooky elements, showing different types of spirits across every room.

The ride lasts about nine minutes and moves slowly through all rooms. Guests step into a special vehicle that is also wheelchair accessible, and there is no need to hold on during the trip.

A ballroom shows transparent dancers who spin and float while an invisible orchestra plays. The illusion comes from projections onto glass and looks so real that many guests believe they are seeing actual spirits.
