Estero Padre Ramos Natural Reserve

The reserve contains extensive mangrove forests, coastal lagoons, and estuaries across 91 square kilometers of protected Pacific coastal land.

The Nicaraguan government established Estero Padre Ramos as a protected area on September 9, 1983, to preserve its coastal ecosystems.

Local residents maintain traditional activities such as small-scale fishing, shrimp farming, and sustainable agriculture within designated areas of the reserve.

The Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources manages visitor access, with guided tours available for exploring the mangrove ecosystems and observing wildlife.

The reserve serves as one of only two primary nesting grounds for hawksbill sea turtles in the eastern Pacific, hosting up to 300 nests each season.
