Cathedral of San Agustin

San Agustin Cathedral features a five-story bell tower reaching 141 feet high and incorporates stained glass windows set within traditional Gothic-shaped masonry walls.

The cathedral's construction began in 1866 under French priest Allophone Martin Souchon and was completed in 1872, following designs by Reverend Pierre Yves Keralum.

The cathedral serves as the central religious institution for Laredo's Catholic community, hosting special masses that gather up to 50 priests from across the diocese.

Recent rehabilitation work expanded the altar area by 40 percent to accommodate large ceremonial gatherings, while installing new mechanical systems for improved acoustics.

The structure stands as the second tallest building in Laredo and maintains its position as one of the oldest functioning cathedrals in the American Southwest.
