Darrell K Royal–Texas Memorial Stadium, Football stadium at University of Texas campus, Austin, United States
Darrell K Royal–Texas Memorial Stadium is a football arena on the University of Texas campus in Austin that holds over 100,000 spectators. The facility spans multiple levels with stands surrounding the playing field on all sides and contains club rooms, press boxes, and a separate section for the marching band.
The arena opened in 1924 as Memorial Stadium with room for 27,000 people to honor Texan soldiers who died in World War I. Several expansions followed over the decades, including a major south zone renovation in 2021 that brought capacity to its current size.
The name honors Darrell K Royal, who coached the university football team from 1957 to 1976 and won three national championships. Fans wear burnt orange and white at home games, while players touch a bronze statue of Bevo, the Longhorns mascot, before each match.
The arena sits on the northeastern edge of the university grounds, within walking distance from the main campus. On game days the facility fills hours before kickoff, so arriving early helps avoid crowds.
A giant screen measuring roughly 49 meters (160 feet) wide and 13 meters (44 feet) tall hangs in the south end zone and shows live action and replays during games. This video board ranks among the largest in any college football arena across the United States.
