Southeast Air Defense Sector, Military air defense unit in Alabama, United States.

The Southeast Air Defense Sector was a military command center that tracked aircraft movements across a vast region spanning multiple states. The facility relied on radar stations spread throughout the area to monitor and process thousands of flights each day.

The facility opened in 1957 as Montgomery Air Defense Sector and served as a crucial surveillance post during the Cold War years. It continued operating until deactivation in 2005.

The control center brought together Air Force personnel from multiple southeastern states who worked side by side every day monitoring the skies. This daily cooperation between active duty and Air National Guard members shaped how the facility operated throughout its decades of service.

The location was a command center staffed by military personnel and operated around the clock every day of the year. Keep in mind this was an active military facility and public access was either not permitted or highly restricted.

During the Cuban Missile Crisis, this command center remained on maximum alert for several weeks while coordinating defense operations across the entire southeastern region. The work done by the team during those tense days proved essential to maintaining security throughout the area.
