Havana Plan Piloto, Urban planning project in Cuba
The Havana Plan Piloto is an urban planning project designed by French Cuban architect and planner José Luis Sert and Paul Lester Weiner.
Initiated in 1955 and abandoned in the early stages of Fidel Castro's revolution, it was meant to remodel Havana into a city that could accommodate a population of expected growth in the future.
It incorporates elements of both local culture with modern architectural techniques.
The plan aimed to remedy housing shortage, traffic congestion, inadequate public services and other pressing issues in the city.
Though never fully realized, parts of the Havana Plan Piloto sparked massive political conflict and remain part of Cuba's capital city today.
