Jules' Undersea Lodge, Underwater hotel in Key Largo, US.
Jules' Undersea Lodge sits about 20 feet below the surface in the tropical Emerald Lagoon with two bedrooms, a common area, and kitchen facilities inside. The entire structure is designed with large windows so visitors can watch the underwater world around them.
The structure originated as La Chalupa Research Laboratory near Puerto Rico in the 1970s before being transformed into the first underwater hotel in the United States. This conversion made the location a pioneer in experimental underwater living spaces.
The underwater facility has received over 10,000 guests, including notable figures like musician Steven Tyler and actor Tim Allen during their diving adventures.
Visitors must have a diving certification or complete an introductory diving course to stay here. Since it operates on set schedules, you should contact ahead and plan time for travel and preparation.
The lodge has a specialized Moon Pool entrance through which food, including pizza, can be delivered directly to guests without water seeping in. This system shows how inventive the underwater operations at this location are.
