Gunboat Beach

Gunboat Beach is a coastal area in Kingston Parish featuring white sand along the shoreline and clear waters meeting the Caribbean Sea. The space includes open swimming areas and shaded sections with vegetation providing relief from the sun.

The name comes from an abandoned Haitian gunboat that remained near the shore in the early 1950s before the area was developed. The beach was created in 1955 by transforming mangrove swamps into a public recreational space.

The beach serves as a gathering place where locals wade in shallow waters and spend time with family and friends on weekends. It functions as a social hub reflecting the rhythm of daily life for people living nearby.
