Gunboat Beach, Beach destination in Kingston Parish, Jamaica
The coastal area features white sand stretching along the shoreline, with clear waters meeting the Caribbean Sea at the edge of Kingston.
The beach received its name from an abandoned Haitian gunboat that remained near the shore during the early 1950s before development began.
The beach opening ceremony in 1959 included local entertainment with bathing beauty contests and water skiing demonstrations for the Kingston community.
Visitors can access the beach via Palisadoes Road, with parking facilities and basic amenities including food vendors and restroom facilities.
The beach development in 1955 transformed an area of mangrove swamps into a recreational space designed to mirror the layout of Miami Beach.
