Monte Plata

Monte Plata is a municipality in the Dominican Republic located at an elevation of 56 meters (184 feet). The area encompasses agricultural land with several rivers running through it, supporting the region's farming activities.

The municipality was established in 1606 when residents from destroyed coastal towns relocated here by royal decree. This resettlement shaped the region's development and established it as a farming community.

Local people maintain Dominican traditions through folk music, dancing, and stories passed down over generations. These customs shape daily life and become especially visible during religious celebrations throughout the year.

The location sits roughly 150 kilometers from Santo Domingo and is accessible year-round. Visitors should expect warm, humid weather, especially during the rainy season from May through November.
