The 180-kilometer island stretches between the Atlantic Ocean and the Great Bahama Bank, with numerous beaches along its 210-mile coastline.
The island, originally named Cigateo, became home to British settlers called the Eleutherian Adventurers who arrived in 1648 seeking to establish a democracy.
The annual Pineapple Festival in June celebrates the agricultural heritage of Eleuthera and its renowned sweet sugarloaf pineapples.
Three airports serve different sections of Eleuthera: North Eleuthera Airport, Governor's Harbour Airport, and Rock Sound Airport for international connections.
The Glass Window Bridge marks the narrowest point of the island, where the dark blue Atlantic Ocean meets the turquoise waters of the Bight of Eleuthera.
