Mexico Beach, Beach town in Bay County, Florida.
Mexico Beach is a coastal town in Bay County, Florida, with a long sandy beach running parallel to a flat main road lined by low houses and small shops. Residential homes sit behind the beachfront, many raised on stilts, and several wooden piers extend into the shallow water.
The town was established in 1966 as a beach resort and grew gradually, maintaining its small size rather than expanding into a larger settlement. Following Hurricane Michael in 2018, nearly all buildings were rebuilt or heavily renovated, shaping the appearance visitors see today.
The name refers to the green waters of the Gulf of Mexico that resemble tropical seas, and appears on shop fronts and house facades throughout town. Anglers use the piers and boat ramps daily, and families are often seen gathering shells or standing in the shallow water along the shore.
Most beach access points line the main road and are easy to reach on foot, with parking nearby and outdoor showers available. The best time to visit is early morning or late afternoon when the sun is less intense and more shade is available.
The layouts of many new buildings are very similar because they were constructed following the same building codes designed to withstand future storms. Some houses still display signs or markings that recall the rebuilding effort and show when they were completed.
