Established in 1948, the Royal Theater operated as a motion picture venue for African American audiences during the period of segregation until 1966.
The theater transformed into the South Side Boys' Club in 1975, introducing facilities such as a library, game room, and wood shop for community youth.
The renovated facility contains modern projection equipment, a 12-foot screen, and a performance stage for various entertainment events.
The Sons of the Legion drum corps performed on the theater steps during its 1948 inauguration, marking the start of this entertainment center.
