Armada Road Multi-Family District, Historic residential district in Venice, Florida.
The Armada Road area is a historic residential district with 11 protected buildings spread across 160 acres between Granada Avenue, Harbor Drive South, Armada Road South, and Park Boulevard South. The structures display Spanish Colonial and Mission architectural styles with arches, tile roofs, and covered porches that remain visible throughout the neighborhood.
The district was built between 1925 and 1949 when architect W.G. Worrell designed multiple homes featuring Spanish and Mission architectural elements. This building period marks Florida's rapid growth during the early 20th century.
The residential buildings in this area reflect how communities formed and grew in coastal Florida during the early 20th century. The way homes are arranged and designed shows the values and daily life of the people who lived there.
The district remains primarily residential with private properties, so visits are limited to public streets and exterior views. Walking through the neighborhood provides good views of the building exteriors and rooflines, with the best light for viewing in early morning or late afternoon hours.
The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1989 and represents a rare collection of homes by a single architect completed during the same building period. This design consistency and shared timeline make it a less obvious example of Florida's early development.
