Larimer Memorial Library, Historical library on Reid Street in Palatka, Florida.
Larimer Memorial Library is a limestone structure in Palatka, Florida, featuring arched windows and inscriptions on its facade. The engravings read "Ignorance breeds crime" and "Knowledge is power" on either side of the entrance.
The building was designed in 1929 by architect Henry John Klutho and financed by James Ross Mellon in memory of his wife Rachel. It received recognition on the National Register of Historic Places in 2008.
The building was converted into an arts center in 1992 and now hosts art exhibitions and theater performances. The space serves the community as a gathering place for creative events and cultural activities.
The building is located downtown on Reid Street in Palatka and is easily accessible on foot. Visitors should check ahead to learn about current exhibitions or events happening at the arts center.
The building displays a rare blend of Prairie School and Art Deco elements in its architecture. It is one of only three well-maintained structures designed by Klutho that remain in the area.
