Blue on the Bay is a residential tower in Edgewater with 37 floors rising approximately 425 feet (130 meters), combining housing units with retail space. The structure sits on Northeast 5th Avenue with commercial areas occupying the first three levels and residential apartments filling the floors above.
The tower was completed in 2005 during a major construction period that transformed Miami's northern neighborhoods. This building boom reshaped Edgewater into a new residential hub for the growing city.
Blue on the Bay was designed by Arquitectonica, the Miami firm founded in 1977 and known for the Atlantis condominium with its cut-out square seen in Miami Vice. The building's two linked volumes, a blue glass tower and a curved white balcony slab, show the firm's habit of pairing glass grids with sculpted white concrete.
Blue on the Bay stands between Northeast 36th Street and Interstate-195 at Northeast 5th Avenue, in Edgewater north of Midtown Miami. The lower three floors hold retail space, and the residential floors above are reached by eight elevators. The building is best picked out from the street by its blue glass tower and the curved white slab beside it.
