Waveland was a former community in Martin County that encompassed Sewall's Point, eastern Rio near Warner Creek, and the area south of Jensen Beach below Northeast Center Street. The region is marked today by Northeast Waveland Avenue, which continues as a road extending south from Northeast Dixie Highway in eastern Rio.
The United States Post Office opened a station here on September 2, 1880, though it was renamed Sewall's Point in 1891. The community underwent several name changes before it was merged with Jensen in 1918.
The name Waveland remains tied to All Saints Episcopal Church and its adjoining cemetery, which preserve local connections and memories. These sites offer visitors a way to understand the area's past through its religious landmarks.
