Tuckahoe, Historic mansion in Jensen Beach, United States.
Tuckahoe is a mansion in Jensen Beach built in 1938 and set on a riverfront property with woodland. The building features two dormitory wings, multiple reception areas, and after extensive renovations in 2009 now includes a catering kitchen, banquet room, terraces, and an amphitheater.
The mansion was built in 1938 for Willaford and Anne Leach and later served as Saint Joseph College of Florida starting in 1950. It then housed the Florida Institute of Technology before becoming the event venue it is today.
The property sits atop the Mount Elizabeth Archaeological Site, where Native American communities left pottery, tools, and shell ornaments behind. These artifacts span thousands of years and show how long people have lived in this area.
The property works well for large events and gatherings because of its rooms and outdoor spaces with room for different activities. Visitors should know this is mainly an events venue and access is best arranged through scheduled occasions.
The name Tuckahoe comes from a Native American word meaning welcome, which reflects what the place does today. This choice of name shows a conscious link to the indigenous history of the land.
