Old Palmetto Hotel, Hotel in den Vereinigten Staaten
The Old Palmetto Hotel is a residential building in Vero Beach from the early 1920s that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Its construction features sturdy brick walls, a straightforward layout, and numerous windows that flood the interior with natural light.
The building was constructed in 1921 by George W. Gray and initially served as a hotel for winter visitors. Beginning in the 1930s, it was converted into apartments and later operated under names such as Kromhout Apartments, Charlton Apartments, and Skippers Inn.
The building served as a gathering place where the community came together for social events and conversations. This role as a meeting point remains part of how local residents view and remember the place today.
The building is located near downtown Vero Beach and is easily accessible on foot from shops, parks, and other points of interest. The neighborhood has a classic appearance with mature trees and welcoming streets that are pleasant to walk through.
The building was expanded in 1926 to add more rooms and facilities to serve a growing number of guests. This enlargement reflects how popular the hotel became as a winter destination and how rapidly Vero Beach was developing.
