Longwood Historic District
Longwood Historic District, Historic district in Longwood, Florida, US.
The Longwood Historic District is an area spanning roughly 190 acres and contains 37 preserved structures from different building periods. These buildings showcase various architectural styles that developed as the town grew from the late 1800s onward.
The district developed in the 1870s and 1880s during the railroad expansion across Florida. This period brought growth and new settlers who introduced different building styles.
The former Longwood Village Inn was once a gathering place that hosted important regional meetings in the 1920s. The building reflects the era when this area attracted prominent visitors and became a social hub.
The district is located near State Road 434 and is accessible by car. You can walk through the area and view the different buildings from the street.
The Inside Outside House was built in 1873 by a ship captain using an unusual construction method where the support beams are on the exterior of the building. This design reflects the builder's maritime background and stands out as a rare architectural feature.
