Bradlee-McIntyre House, Victorian cottage in Longwood, Florida.
The Bradlee-McIntyre House is a three-story residence in Longwood with 13 rooms and an octagonal tower featuring decorative trim typical of late 19th-century design. The exterior displays the detailed woodwork and embellishments characteristic of Victorian-era construction.
The house was built in 1885 as a winter residence for Boston architect Nathaniel Bradlee. It was relocated from Altamonte Springs to Longwood in 1973 to save it from demolition.
The house shows how wealthy Northern families spent winters in Florida while maintaining the living style they knew back home. The rooms and their design reflect this practice that became common among seasonal migrants during the late Victorian era.
The site is easily walkable and provides good views of the structure from the surrounding grounds. It is helpful to check opening days in advance since visit times are limited to specific weekdays and Sundays.
The building is the only surviving example of its kind in two counties of Central Florida and displays rare construction details from that era. Its rescue through relocation makes it a special example of architectural preservation in the region.
