Tarragona Tower is an octagonal structure in Daytona Beach built from coquina rock quarried locally, featuring distinctive arches throughout its design. The tower stands about 45 feet tall and displays the architectural character typical of this transitional period.
Built in 1925 as an entrance marker for the Daytona Highlands residential community, the structure served to define the character of this new development. Decades later, the tower was physically relocated in 1994 to preserve it when roadway expansion threatened its original location.
The structure displays Spanish Revival elements in its design, reflecting the Mediterranean influences that shaped Florida's residential developments during the 1920s.
The tower is located along West International Speedway Boulevard and can be viewed from the outside in the surrounding area. Visiting during daytime hours allows you to appreciate the architectural details and take photographs.
In 1994, the entire structure was physically moved approximately 75 feet south to prevent its demolition during a major roadway project. This remarkable rescue operation transformed the tower into a testament to the community's commitment to preserving its heritage.
