Mount Zion AME Church features brick construction with arched windows, a bell tower, contrasting brick quoins, and a crenelated parapet at 201 East Beaver Street.
Founded by formerly enslaved individuals in 1866, the congregation rebuilt their church in 1905 after the Great Fire of 1901 destroyed their previous building.
The structure stands as the oldest Black congregation in Jacksonville, beginning as a secret worship society before establishing its first official building in 1870.
Sunday services begin at 10 AM, with Bible study sessions every Wednesday from 10 AM to 11 AM, and prayer meetings on Mondays and Fridays at 6:30 AM.
The church represents one of two remaining examples of Romanesque Revival architecture in downtown Jacksonville, constructed for $18,000 in 1905.
